Baldwin Wallace University AmeriCorps Program is in need of 26 full-time and 14 part-time AmeriCorps members to serve as Health Professions Affinity Community (HPAC) Specialists for the 2018-2019 academic year. Service locations will include schools across Northeast Ohio, as well as opportunities in the Cincinnati, Dayton and Marietta areas. This is a rewarding opportunity for undergraduate and master’s degree-seeking college students, college graduates taking a gap year before applying to professional school, veterans and others seeking to make a difference in their community!

The Corps for Rural and Urban Success and Health (CRUSH)AmeriCorps members commit to an 11-month service year from August 15, 2018 through July 12, 2019. Full-time members complete 1700service hours (38-40 hours/week) and part-time members complete 900 service hours (approximately 20 hours/week). Baldwin Wallace UniversityAmeriCorps members serve students in more than 26 counties throughOhio in middle schools, high schools and college/universities.

AmeriCorps also supports the military community by engaging veterans in service, helping veterans to readjust to civilian life and providingsupport to military families. Baldwin Wallace University’s AmeriCorps program is proud to partner with the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center and Community Based Outreach Clinics!

Baldwin Wallace University AmeriCorps member receives the following benefits:

The amount of the education award is linked to the value of the Pell Grant. A member has up to seven years after his or her term of service to use the Education Award which may be used towards educationalexpenses or current/future student loans.

  •  Gain professional development skills including training to earn Community Health Worker Certification through the Ohio Board of Nursing along with grant writing skills
  • A stipend of $1 for full-time members and $7,278 for part-time members, distributed in monthly installments.
  • Earn a Segal Education Award upon successful completion of their service hours from the National Service Trust of $5,920 for a year of full-time service, or $2,960 or a year of part-time service.
Responsibilities

Baldwin Wallace University AmeriCorps members serve students ranging from middle school through early college years. They manage and/or create HPAC programs with designated schools and community organizations, while following the IDEAS Model

I      Identify a community health concern

D    Develop a program/project to bring awareness to the health concern

E     Enact the program within your community

A     Assess the effectiveness of your project

S     Share the results of your project at Baldwin Wallace University in the spring during the regional Scholars Day Conference
